The BIG PINK! Finally seeing these shoegazy brits Tomorrow night. So stoked.
Go see this guy. Such a great voice and such a talented guitar player. Worth every penny.
The Swellers are a newish band that I have been turned onto in the last few weeks. Good old fashioned pop-punk at its best. Makes your day a little brighter.
Delta Rae killed it. I feel like this band is going to be huge. I had the pleasure of working with them the other night and simply fell in love with their music. Especially this creepy little number. Who throws a Gospel style song on the radio? No Guitars? They did. It is impressive.
Take a liten to Bottom of the River right now. Trust me. You won’t be disappointed.
In one month. This.
Every Time I Die have been a HUGE influence on me since I was about 19 years old. I have seen them live countless of times and will continue to do so for years to come. One of the best bands of the early 00’s Hardcore scene. This song “Partying is such Sweet Sorrow” is one of my favorites from the new album Ex-Lives.
OVer the past couple of weeks I have been listening to TONS of new music, IT seems like its been a honey hole of a week. But the main score is the new album by Geographer. Here is an old gem by them. I have seen em a few times and I must say , they clearly are meant for bigger things.
I feel like Moody/shoegaze/Electronica is really going to be in my headphones a lot this year. Bands like SF’s own Class Actress, who are really good, seem to be doing a shoe gaze electronica that create haunting hooks, dark beats, and simple guitar lines that really seem to tickle my fancy.
Hip-Hop has been in heavy rotation here at the Hidden In Headphones HQ. Specifically a lot of Wiz Khalifa. His first Album “Deal or No Deal” is very impressive. It helps that Ski-Beats , legendary producer behind a lot of old Jay-z beats on “Reasonable Doubt”, helped produce it. The video I am posting is from a mix tape and includes an appearance by Curren$ey another great rapper that should be HUGE next year. If you wanna get your Hip-Hop on either one of these guys will suffice..

A quick note : Soundcloud created this whole post to share on tumblr. My personal take on this song is to simply say that it’s fantastic and worth the listen. I always thought this band was just ok, but this song (I hope) puts them into a brand new direction.
Taken from “Painted”, the new album from NARROWS.
Available in stores February 28th.
Ordering information will be posted soon.
While every bit as sonically vitriolic as their past endeavors, Painted attempts to focus its energy rather than lash out blindly. Songs like “Greenland” and “It’s The Water” still weigh in with bottom-heavy instrumentation, but lyrically look towards brighter horizons. Though the band seeks to close the emotional divide it basked in on their debut, the primary meaning behind New Distances couldn’t be more pertinent to the band’s sophomore album. The U.S. Department of Immigration recently denied entry to Cox, forcing the recruitment of temporary guitarist Mark Holcomb (Aeges, Undertow, Shift) for Narrow’s 2011 tour with Helms Alee. While the global nature of the band already limited their opportunities for touring, this additional roadblock further exacerbated the difficulties of writing and recording an album with members spread across the United Stated and Europe.
Despite the difficulties of recording across two hemispheres, Painted sounds like a band locked into a singular vision. Matt Bayles (Mastodon, ISIS, Minus The Bear) recorded the album at Red Room Studios with Cox’s guitar overdubs tracked by Wayne Pennell at Bunker Studios in Brentford, England during late night Skype sessions with the stateside members of the band. Due in part to the constraints of time and distance, Painted is a streamlined record. With eight songs clocking in at just over 27 minutes, the album wastes no time exorcising its demons. And while part of New Distances’ allure stemmed from it’s marriage of primal metallic hardcore with the effects-laden art rock approach of guitarists Cox and Frederiksen, Painted harnesses power from curtailing more of their experimental moments in favor of big meaty riffs and voracious tempos.
